“Ti stavo aspettando” disse, abbozzando un sorriso pernicioso e guardandomi la mano che tenevo ancora sul cuore.
“Ma che vuoi da me?” chiesi con rassegnazione, in preda ad un’evidente crisi di nervi. “Non vedi che sono un povero diavolo?”
“Sono un povero diavolo anch’io!” rispose. “E ho bisogno di te almeno quanto tu ne abbia di me”.

„Ich habe auf dich gewartet”, sagte er mit dem Anflug eines bösartigen Lächelns und er schaute auf meine Hand, die ich immer noch schützend auf meiner linken Brusthälfte (wo das Herz war) hielt.
„Aber, was willst du denn von mir?” fragte ich resigniert, denn eine Nervenkrise hatte mich im Griff, sie raubte mir alle Kraft. „Siehst du nicht, dass ich ein armer Teufel bin?”
„Ich bin auch ein armer Teufel”, antwortete er. „Und ich brauche dich mindestens genauso wie du mich brauchst!”
