The two streams will be held in the Gordon lecture theatre (Gordon) and School Common Room (SCR) – Strict timing will be observed.

Conference paper submission deadline extended

The submission deadline for conference papers was extended to 11th July 2008 as several people had apparently not seen the original call nor the follow up call.

Papers should be submitted via rrr.reading.ac.uk (which is available on campus), and deposited within the submitters research group, as a .doc format file.

Amended call for papers

The call for papers has been amended with the new (lack of) condition on maximum length of papers.

(edit - my spelling of amended has been amended to make it fit better with the English language!)

Call has gone out

The call has gone out today, via the departmental secretaries, to the whole of the University. Hopefully it will go to all PhD students and research staff, and some of them will want to share their research at the conference. It would be particularly good if we get a range of disciplines involved, I believe, as inter-disciplinary research is not only a growth area, but one which we can both contribute significantly to, and benefit from.

Once we start to get an idea of the topics people will be presenting on, it is likely that we will send a reminder of the call, with some topic areas. Personally I am hoping that some philosophers, social scientists and educationalists will want to come and present, and maybe we can use it as a springboard for future projects.

Steps forward and small delays

We have now got confirmation of the room bookings, thanks to Dimitris, and the budget proposal has been submitted, thanks to Angeles. We are still discussing some matters regarding publication and deadlines, and awaiting comment on the Call for Papers before it can be sent out, but apart from a slight shift in the deadline for the Call, things are progressing nicely.

Proceedings - paper or CD/DVD?

We are currently debating whether to produce paper copies of the proceedings for everyone, or whether we should be a little more environmentally friendly (and reduce costs) by only pulishing on CD/DVD.

Progress pt II

The conference organisers are continuing to make headway.

We have established that we are welcome to use the Reading Research Repository for submission of the papers (although the service isn't live yet, it will be by June)

Room booking is underway, with the event being held over 2 days at the end of September, in the Agric building on Whiteknights Campus. The facilities are good, and the School has an established practice of holding academic presentations there.

There is currently a debate on whether to publish the proceedings only in electronic format, to save on trees, costs, and possibly relax restrictions on the size of submissions.

Apart from that, a couple of minor administrative issues need resolving (such as a group email address, and an online registration form) and then the initial Call for papers will be set to go.

Conference progress

We have established a google group for the organisers to discuss things, and are examining the possibilities of using this RedGloo community as a Conference site to allow for dissemination about progress and to provide access to the School style guide and a way of submitting papers.
